HOT AIR COLD STAKE JOINING Heated air is applied around the bosses, softening them to a plastic (pliable) state. Immediately following the heat is removed and a cold steel stake is pressed into the molten plastic to reform it into a rivet head shape. The resultant bonds are very tight and strong.
